Stuart Shugg completed a Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne, Australia in 2008, and recieved an MFA in Dance and Choreography as a Teaching Fellow from Bennington College, Vermont in 2018. In Australia he has danced with Russell Dumas and Linda Sastradipradja and has also appeared in the works of Lucy Guerin and Antony Hamilton. In New York City he has danced for Jodi Melnick, Jon Kinzel, Rebecca Brooks and Jo McKendry. Stuart joined the Trisha Brown Dance Company in 2011 and is currently both a dancer and rehearsal assistant. He has taught Brown's repertoire in workshops and masterclasses internationally and most recently helped restage “Solo Olos" on Kyle Abraham's Abraham.In.Motion and “Newark" on The Lyon Opera Ballet. He has presented his own choreographic work in NYC at the Center for Performance Research, Gibney Dance Center, Brooklyn Studios for Dance, Roulette, Danspace's DraftWork series, Cathy Weis's Sundays on Broadway, in Montevideo, Uruguay at Teatro Solis, and in Melbourne, Australia at The Substation and Monash University's Museum of Art. He is currently a guest teacher at Sarah Lawrence College where he teaches dance technique classes.
