Center for Ballet and the Arts Seminar: Narcissus (work-in-progress excerpts)

March 20, 2018

While in residence at the Center for Ballet and the Arts, I will offer a lecture/demonstration on my fellowship project Narcissus. The project, to set a new work to Nikolai Tcherepnin's ballet score Narcisse et Echo composed in 1911 for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, will reappropriate themes of the eponymous ancient Greek myth on which it is based to re-imagine the ballet through a contemporary queer lens. Incorporating costume elements co-designed by Andrew Jordan, the seminar will include work-in-progress excerpts from the new work performed by New York City Ballet principal dancer Russell Janzen.
