Dardanus

Dardanus

April 26, 2015

In residence at the Opéra National de Bordeaux with director Michel Fau and conductor Raphaël Pichon of Ensemble Pygmalion, I will create choreography for Jean-Philippe Rameau's lyric tragedy in five acts, Dardanus.*  At the heart of six tragedies, Dardanus represents an important step in the evolution of Rameau's multifaceted musical genius.  It is in this work, with its charming libretto containing all the "classic themes" of the French opera: thwarted love, valor of the hero secretly loved, the visionary magician, and evil spirits, that the importance of an orchestra accompanying song reached its full maturity.
