Jeux (2023)
Jeux (French for “Games”), set to Claude Debussy’s eponymous 1912 poème dansé, is a doubled queer reimagining of Vaslav Nijinsky’s original 1913 ballet for a trio of players who meet and tryst on a tennis lawn chasing after a stray ball. The work, featuring costume designs by Reid & Harriet Design and Andrew Jordan with sound design by Tei Blow and lighting by Joe Levasseur, was commissioned by Baryshnikov Arts and premièred at their Fall Fête on October 10th, 2023 in the Jerome Robbins Theater.*
*Original choreography is by Christopher Williams with brief quotes from Millicent Hodson’s 1996 reconstruction of Nijinsky’s 1913 original (used with her permission).
